The two city election protest cases were dismissed in Cochise County Superior Court Tuesday afternoon on the basis that the defendants were not properly served.

Mayoral candidate Gretchen Bonaduce, who was represented by attorney James Ledbetter, who was also the former city attorney, appeared before Cochise County Superior Court Judge David Thorn after Bisbee City Councilmember Anna Cline filed a civil complaint last week challenging the validity of Bonaduce nomination petitions.

Saturday afternoon traffic was rerouted and a woman was airlifted after a two vehicle accident on Highway 92 near Safeway. According to the Bisbee Police Department, the driver of the Toyota Tundra turned onto Highway 92 into a red Toyota Camry causing serious injury to the driver and severe damage to her Toyota Camry. The woman was transported to the helipad at the Bisbee fire station on Highway 92 where she was airlifted to a Tucson hospital for her injuries. The driver of the Tundra was taken by ambulance to Copper Queen Community Hospital for treatment of his injures. Police said the Tundra pulled out in front of the Camry causing the accident. The driver of the Tundra was cited for failure to yield. Police reported the driver stated he looked both ways and did not see the Camry before pulling onto the highway.

The deciding vote came at the April 10 Cochise County Planning and Zoning meeting from P&Z chair Kim DePew, who said she had a lot of reservations, but “felt the property owner could not be held hostage any longer” and voted in favor of Lewis’s application request for his master development plan and rezoning. The approval will now allow Lewis’s request for the master plan and zoning change to move forward to the Cochise County Board of Supervisors for approval to change the 175-acre property from RU-4 (rural district with one dwelling per 4 acres) and R-36 (residential district within dwelling per 36,000 square feet) to a planned development district.

The recommendation was granted but not before staff suggested conditions for the planned use of the property which will include a music pavilion, RV park, dry camping, restaurant, bar, walking paths as well as other amenities….read full story (online subscribers only)
